Court remands teenager for stealing church offering

A Tinubu Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded a 19-year-old man, Stephen John in prison for stealing N31, 000, church offering from a Catholic Church.

The Magistrate, Mrs F.O. Ikobayo said John should be remanded in Ikoyi prison after he pleaded guilty to a three-count charge of conspiracy, breaking, entry and stealing.
She adjourned the case to Dec. 2 for facts and sentence
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Nurudeen Thomas, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Nov. 16 at about 11p.m. in a Catholic Church at Elegbata, Apongbon area of Lagos.
He said that John and two others, who were still at large, broke into the church and stole N31, 000, church offering.

"He was caught by a security guard while the others escaped," he said, adding that the offences contravened Sections 285, 305 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
