U.S. Marine General Joseph Dunford arrived in Iraq for an unannounced visit on Tuesday to get an update on the battle against Islamic State, in his first trip there since taking over as the United States' top general on Oct. 1.

Dunford, the chairman of the U.S. military's Joint Chiefs of Staff, landed in Erbil, capital of Iraq's Kurdistan region, and was due to meet Kurdistan region's President Massoud Barzani.
