The robotics industry across the world seems to be moving at an increasingly crazy speed these days. Not only are we seeing Google-owned Boston Dynamics bringing out increasingly nimble, adept robot, we are also seeing more human-like robots than we should be comfortable with.
To further emphasize this, researchers in China have recently unveiled a realistic robot called Jia Jia. The robot took three years to make and it looks exactly like a female adult, complete with facial features that can move (she/it blinks), realistic facial expressions and human-like hair.
Jia Jia is designed to mimic a human in as many ways as possible so it can casually look around a room and mouth was designed to correspond with whatever statements she might be making.
In fact, to a certain extent, Jia Jia can process events going on around her (WHAAAT?). For example, if she recognizes that someone is up close and taking pictures, she'll ask for some space. Na wa.
Mass production isn't on the cards yet, according to BGR but the research team is keen on enhancing the robots functionality in the months and years ahead. They should sha not cause some Skynet-type situation.
