The Commissioner for Sports, Uju Nwogu, made the promise at the two years anniversary and unveiling of other programmes of DOSAD in Awka on Monday.

DOSAD has interest in sports, tourism, gymnasium and events management.

Nwogu said the activities of DOSAD were in line with the policy of Gov. Willie Obiano on developing and empowering the youth through sports and entrepreneurship.

She lauded the Director of DOSAD, Rev. Fr. Obinna Dike for setting up the centre and giving a meaningful life to youths.

She added that the government would continue to support it as long as it remained focused.

“We are happy with what DOSAD is doing. It is in line with what the government is doing for the youth and it plans to support them.

“We are also calling on the private sector to come in and invest in areas like this so that together we can uplift our youths with greater opportunities,’’ Nwogu said.

Also, Dike said that DOSAD football academy had two campuses for female and males in Neni, Anocha Local GovernmentArea and Enugu-Ukwu in Njikoka Local Government respectively where youths engaged in football and academics.

The FIFA graded coach said DOSAD programmes were practical interventions of the Catholic Church toward addressing the plights of talented underprivileged youths.

He said the academy was open to donations from the public to enable its noble objectives, including building an emporium which would serve as a centre for DOSAD at the Cathedral to be realised.

The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Dr Paulinus Ezeokafor, urged the public to visit DOSAD and take advantage of the programmes for their wellbeing.

Ezeokafor, a tennis player said there was a strong relationship between physical and spiritual wellbeing, adding that no talent would be useful unless developed.
