Divorce seeking housewife alleges family neglect by husband

A housewife, Murja Ibrahim, on Friday, pleaded with a Grade 1 Area Court in Gudu, Abuja, to dissolve her marriage with her husband, Ibrahim Haruna, for allegedly neglecting the family.

The plaintiff, a resident of Damagaza village in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), accused her husband of always making trouble whenever she requested help from him.

She said that Haruna had divorced her twice ‎in the past and was yet to divorce her for the third time which would make her to go finally according to the tenets of Islam.

"I want this honourable court to dissolve this marriage because this man has been so unfair to me and has neglected his responsibilities," she said.

The defendant, however, denied the allegations against him, saying he did not want a divorce and the court's presiding judge, Mr Isah Imam, asked the couple to go and reconcile.

Imam then adjourned the case until Aug.13 for further hearing.
