CHAN is the version of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) played only by home-based players.

Speaking to Pulse Sports, the ex-Flying Eagles player revealed he rejected deals from foreign clubs so he will be able to play in the competition.

“My major reason was to represent my country and after the CHAN competition, I hope for a better deal,” he told Pulse Sports when he was asked why he rejected the deal.

“The deal was good enough but I decided to stay to play the CHAN.”

The midfielder was also part of the Super Eagles Team B side that managed to get to the final of the 2017 WAFU Cup where they lost 4-1 to Ghana.

“I’m happy I was called upon to represent my country,” he said.

He was also called up by Super Eagles boss Gernot Rohr for the doubleheader against Cameroon in early September for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Although he didn’t play in any of the games, the former MFM FC player trained and camped with the Super Eagles and even had his initiation alongside other first-timers in the squad.
