Muralitharan inducted into ICC Hall of Fame

Muttiah Muralitharan's record-breaking career for Sri Lanka has been recognised by the ICC.

Test cricket's most successful bowler Muttiah Muralitharan has become the first Sri Lankan to be inducted into the ICC's Hall of Fame.

During his 18-year Test career Muralitharan took a record 800 wickets at 22.72, with best bowling figures of 9-51 in a sole innings and 16-220 in a match.

Muralitharan bamboozled batsmen all over the world with his array of deliveries, England sides suffering against him the most as he took 112 wickets against them.

The spinner also claimed 534 dismissals in one-day internationals and 13 in 12 Twenty20 matches for his country.

"The ICC Cricket Hall of Fame recognises some of the truly great players from cricket's long and illustrious history, and this year's inductees thoroughly deserve to be in this highly prestigious group.

"Muralitharan has been one of the greats of the modern era. His guile and consistency over the years helped Sri Lanka develop as a very competitive side in both Tests and ODI cricket."

Australia's two-time Women's World Cup winner Karen Rolton and compatriot Arthur Morris are also inducted into the Hall of Fame, with England's George Lohmann completing the list.
