Howe: I want to do what's right for the club. If that means leaving, I have no problem doing it.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is facing increasing criticism and speculation about his future. This comes amidst the team's inconsistent form, a disappointing league position, and the fact that they've secured only one win in their last six matches across all competitions. However, Howe remains confident that the Magpies can string together a strong run and finish the season successfully. He hopes this resurgence will begin in tomorrow's clash against Bournemouth.
"We need to rediscover that winning feeling. It's been too long. We're desperate to win and to play well. This week has been a mix of emotions. We had a frustrating result against Crystal Palace, and there was a bit of anger. There weren't many smiling faces on the training ground, but I think there's a steely determination to put things right.
It's been a strange year in terms of the Premier League standings. We need a run of victories, which we've needed all season. The biggest difference has been the lack of consistency. We're in a tough period, but we can still finish with a really successful season, so that has to be our goal.
I just want to serve the club and do what's right for it. That has always been my objective. If that means leaving to help the club, then of course, that's something I would do; I have no problem doing it. It's not about me. But if I believe I'm the right person to lead the club forward, which I do at the moment, then I will do it and I will fight to the end. I will fight harder than ever, but it's about making sure those two things align," Howe stated.
When asked if he had received assurances about his future from the Public Investment Fund, the club's owners, the manager replied: "No, and I wouldn't seek them. I don't communicate with PIF on a daily basis."
Howe also commented on the condition of captain Bruno Guimarães:
"There's a chance Bruno Guimarães could play. He's desperate to play, and I love that about Bruno. I've told the medical staff to hold him back. I'll make a decision based on what I see in training today, but there's a chance."
