How Falconets have produced stars for Super Falcons
The Falconets have been to all editions of the World Cup and in all of these tournaments, they have produced players who have gone ahead to play for the Super Falcons. Many of the Super Falcons players played for the U-20 team.
Rita Chikwelu was a star at the U-20 World Cup in 2006. She thrilled the world with skills and superb performance in midfield and she was quickly invited to the Super Falcons.
The Falconets made history in 2010 when they became the first African country to qualify to the final of any FIFA Women's World Cup. The team led by Edat Egan lost to Germany in the final. Many players from that team have played for the Super Falcons and are still playing.
That team had Alaba Jonathan who was the number one goalkeeper as Nigeria beat Cameroon to win the AWCON in 2016. Osinachi Ohale, Gloria Ofeogbu, Cecelia Nku, Glory Iroka, Helen Ukaonu, Amarachi Okoronkwo, Ebere Orji, Charity Adule, Esther Sunday, Ngozi Ebere and Desire Oparanozie were part of that team and have played for the Falcons.
Super Falcons goalkeepers, Tochukwu Oluehi and Chiamaka Nnadozie made name for themselves at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup and they have replicated their heroic performances for the Falcons and have won trophies too with the senior team.
In 2012, Francisca Ordega, Ngozi Okobi, and Ugo Njoku were stars at the U-20 Women's World Cup in Japan and they have played for the Falcons at the senior World Cup.
In 2014, Asisat Oshoala was a star at the U-20 Women's World Cup in Canada and has been a star for the Falcons alongside Uchechi Sunday. Halimatu Ayinde and Osas Igbinovia were the midfielders for the Falconets at the world Cup and they have won the AWCON with the Falcons. Chinwendu Ihezuo, Rasheedat Ajibade and Joy Bokiri were stars at the U-20 Women's World Cup and have also progressed to the Falcons. Monday Gift who scored two of Nigeria's goals against Mali at the Aisha Buhari Cup was a former captain of the Falconets.
Glory Ogbonna and Chidinma Okeke played at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in France in 2018 and are now Super Falcons players, and Okeke got the assist for Asisat Oshoala's goal at the last FIFA Women's World Cup in France.
Over these years, the Falconets have been one of the Nigeria's most productive teams as it has produced many AWCON winners and will continue to produce talents for the national team.
