Barcelona's head coach, Hansi Flick, has outlined the club's key objectives for the upcoming summer transfer window, emphasizing the need for a balanced squad to succeed in the Champions League, according to Catalan publication "Sport."
The German tactician is reportedly pleased with the work of the La Masia academy and the progress of its young players. However, he believes the team lacks players aged between 26 and 28 who are capable of assuming leadership roles.
In Flick's view, these are precisely the players who should bridge the gap between the youth and more experienced members of the squad. This is particularly crucial in the pursuit of Champions League glory – a trophy Barcelona has not won since 2015. The coach also believes that the current players in this age bracket within the team do not yet meet the required standard and fail to demonstrate sufficient leadership qualities.
The strategy is for Barcelona to strengthen with players who will not only elevate the team's overall quality but also bring a winning mentality and the ability to inspire their teammates.
Concurrently, the club is in negotiations to extend Flick's own contract. The coach's agent, Pini Zahavi, recently visited Barcelona, where the parties reportedly reached a verbal agreement to extend the deal until 2028. The official signing is expected to take place after the conclusion of the La Liga season.
