Ciplinski, caddying for Open debutant Marco Dawson, was treated after a stray tee shot from Vijay Singh at the seventh dealt him a nasty blow.

He was taken away on a golf buggy and admitted to the University Hospital Ayr for observation.

A spokesperson for NHS Ayrshire and Arran confirmed to Omnisport that Ciplinski was stable, but it remains to be seen whether he will still able to perform his duties for American Dawson this week.

The first round of the major gets under way on Thursday.
