Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has insisted he has "no regrets" about turning down moves abroad during his illustrious playing career. The former Reds and England captain hung up his boots in 2016 following 19 years at Anfield and a swansong season with LA Galaxy.

"There was interest from a few European clubs, mostly through Jose Mourinho. Inter Milan, Real Madrid twice, and there were some conversations between my agent and Bayern Munich when Bastian Schweinsteiger was leaving. I wasn't really tempted because I was never going to leave Liverpool at that point. I was enjoying my football under Brendan Rodgers. Having three or four of the world's biggest clubs interested in you during your career is flattering, of course," Gerrard told The Overlap Daily podcast.

Gerrard did admit, however, that he occasionally wonders what might have been: "When you watch players like Jude Bellingham or Harry Kane going on to win major honours abroad, those thoughts naturally cross your mind and you look back and wonder. But I have no regrets over the choices I made. None whatsoever."
