Gable Steveson is set to make his highly anticipated wrestling debut for the RAF organization against a seasoned UFC veteran. The return of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medalist to the mat is now official, with his opponent confirmed. On Tuesday, the organization announced that the Olympic champion will face UFC and PFL veteran Alexander Romanov in the main event of RAF 9. The fight night is scheduled for May 30th at the College Park Center in Arlington, Texas.
“We are thrilled to bring RAF to Texas for the first time and to a market that lives and breathes big-time sports,” stated RAF CEO Chad Bronstein. “The momentum behind this league continues to grow, and we are offering matchups you simply can't see anywhere else. Dallas will feel that on May 30th.”
In the co-main event, Colby Covington will square off against former UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman. Following his technical knockout victory over Dillon Danis at RAF 7, Covington called for an “all-American” clash with Weidman, and his wish will now be granted.
The promotion also announced that additional bouts will be revealed in the future. RAF 9 will be broadcast exclusively on "FOX Nation."
