According to Vanguard, a state High court has ordered the FRSC to pay N200, 000 to Chinedu Ngele, a legal practitioner.
Ngele was reportedly stopped for using expired tyres, on November 9, 2014, by special marshals on the Abakaliki/Enugu Expressway.
The marshals proceeded to seize his driver’s licence and two law books, despite his claims that his vehicle tyre was good.
He was advised to come back for his items, with a bank teller as evidence for the N2, 000 fine.
Ngele returned with his teller, but was turned away, as it was some minutes past 4pm.
He was stopped, again, on his way home by officers on duty, allegedly led by one R.D Ekponta.
They invited him into their office and asked to pay N2,500, in order to release his items immediately.
He was reportedly beaten up, after an argument ensued between him and the officers.
The FRSC is yet to release an official statement, concerning this case.
