Simona Halep will not allow herself to think about making amends for defeat in last year's French Open final as she looks to plot a return in 2015.

The Romanian made a confident start to the second grand slam of the year on Sunday with a 7-5 6-4 win over Evgeniya Rodina, but she is taking the tournament game by game rather than dreaming of the final.

Halep reached her first grand slam final at Roland Garros last year, but she came up short as Maria Sharapova secured her second French Open title.

"I am not thinking that if I played the final last year I have to do it again this year," she told the French Tennis Federation.

"Everyone is playing well and fighting to win matches, I just want to win many matches.

"I have to keep my mind focused on the match I have to play, I am trying to get better day by day and to win the next round, I just this I have in mind."

And the 23-year-old is confident her game is in better shape this season having won three titles and reached the semi-finals at the Italian Open in Rome earlier this month.

She added: "I'm stronger mentally and on court, I feel I have a stronger body, and my game is improving a lot, my serve is better.

"I feel more confident with my game now."
