Andy Murray defeats Facundo Arguello in first round
Andy Murray wasted little time in booking his place in the French Open second round, seeing off world number 137 Facundo Arguello in straight sets.
World number three Murray has been in fine form on clay in recent weeks, picking up titles in Munich and Madrid to raise hopes of a maiden French Open success.
The Scot, who has never reached the final at Roland Garros, picked up where he left off on Monday, easing through 6-3 6-3 6-1 against lucky loser Arguello.
Murray made a strong start, claiming an early break, but he was soon pegged back by the Argentinian and the first set was back on serve at 3-3.
However, Murray stepped up his efforts and took the next three games to edge himself ahead in the match.
He broke Arguello to love in game five of the second set, and repeated the trick at 5-3 up as his opponent wilted under his intensity and accuracy of groundstrokes.
The first two sets had both been won in 40 minutes, but the third took just 25 as Murray moved through the gears.
Two breaks of serve gave him a 5-1 lead and although Arguello saved one match point with a fearsome passing forehand, he sent his next return long as Murray was able to celebrate a routine victory.
