France has threatened legal action following a vile racist tirade from a Paraguayan politician aimed at star player Kylian Mbappé. Senator Celeste Amarilla posted an offensive comment on the social media platform 'X' after France's tense 1-0 victory over Paraguay on Saturday.

Mbappé's second-half penalty was enough to send the South Americans home, while France advanced to the quarterfinals.

Following her country's bitter elimination, Amarilla described Mbappé as a "colonized Cameroonian desperately trying to pass himself off as French." She also called the tournament's leading scorer a "boor" who hadn't learned to write. Amarilla even audaciously suggested that Paraguay's players should have slapped the French captain.

Mbappé responded with a sharp statement, defending not only himself but also the opposing team.

He wrote: "Madam Celeste Amarilla, you are a despicable woman and unworthy of your position. You do not represent Paraguay – a country that showed passion and honor throughout the entire competition."

Mbappé continued: "Through your recklessness and blatant racism, the whole world has now seen the journey and historical efforts your players achieved during this World Cup, giving way to an incompetent woman who gives the world the worst possible image of her country. I will never allow people like her the freedom to spread their hatred and racism across the world."

The French Football Federation has already announced plans to file a criminal complaint, describing the remarks as "utterly disgusting and unacceptable."

A statement read: "These remarks are criminal and reprehensible. They must be prosecuted both here and everywhere. The French Federation has reported the case to the public prosecutor's office with a view to legal proceedings. These remarks bring shame upon those who make them and those who spread them. The players of the French national team represent France; our country has been insulted."

Meanwhile, the government of Paraguay also issued a statement.

It stated: "The Government of the Republic of Paraguay condemns and rejects the statements of Senator Celeste Amarilla, directed at the captain of the French national football team, Kylian Mbappé, as they contradict the values and principles that inspire peaceful coexistence and respect for human dignity, which our country promotes."
