The incident unfolded on July 16th in Castle Rock. The owner of a liquor store contacted police around 8 PM, reporting that he witnessed Lawson exit the store with three bottles of Tito's vodka, valued at $34.
According to reports, the former NBA player then opened one of the bottles and began drinking from it outside the store. He subsequently entered a nearby restaurant and sat at the bar, appearing visibly intoxicated.
Lawson was later apprehended and taken to Douglas County Jail, where he was charged with theft of merchandise valued under $300.
However, the incident didn't end there. Citing police records, the "New York Post" reported that while in custody, Lawson verbally abused officers, calling one derogatory names, kicking the cell glass, shouting, and spitting on the floor.
He eventually calmed down and apologized for his behavior. Lawson spent eight seasons in the NBA. The Denver Nuggets drafted him as the 18th overall pick in 2009, and he played the best years of his career in Colorado.
