A Catholic Cardinal, Joseph Zen Ze-kiun, was on Wednesday, December 3 arrested by the police after joining protesters at the Occupy Street Protest in Hong Kong China.
The 82-year-old cardinal surrounded himself to police after the protest had been declared illegal and was held at the station for an hour. Joseph Zen Ze-Kiun and founders of the Occupy Central, Benny Tai, Chan Kin-man and Chu Yiu-ming, were all informed that they would be invited back to the station at an appropriate time.
According to, Cardinal Joseph Zen Ze-Kiun has been a vocal supporter of the Occupy protesters that started three months ago. The cardinal led a three-day pro-democracy march through Hong-Kong in June and also spent a night outside the public square with student protesters in September.
Zen in an October interview with America Magazine said that joining protesters have made him more aware of the situation in Hong Kong.
"The authorities celebrated the national holiday [on Oct. 1]... but they don’t seem to realize the seriousness of the situation or how angry the people of Hong Kong are.They seem to have no sense of what has happened in these days," Zen said in the interview.
