Simone Fontecchio is one of the most sought-after names heading into the NBA offseason. Top EuroLeague teams are closely monitoring his situation, should he not secure a new contract in the USA. However, Fontecchio has made his intentions clear.
The Italian forward concluded the regular season with the Miami Heat, averaging 8.7 points and 3.1 rebounds across 69 games, playing approximately 17 minutes per contest.
The Italian forward's contract expires this summer, making him an unrestricted free agent. This grants him the freedom to negotiate with any team he chooses, including European clubs, if NBA offers don't meet his expectations. Naturally, EuroLeague powerhouses remain on high alert, as the possibility of his return to Europe is still open.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Fontecchio discussed his NBA experience and prioritized staying in Miami, provided the club shares the same desire.
"Overall, I'm satisfied, although it was a season with personal ups and downs," Fontecchio began. "I started very strong, which raised expectations. In December, however, my performance dipped; I'm the first to admit that. With key players like Herro returning, my playing time decreased. But overall, I'm happy."
Regarding his future, the Italian forward was unequivocal: "I would love to stay in Miami, but we all know how the NBA works, so nothing is certain. For the first time, though, I'll be an unrestricted free agent, so I can choose my own future. Nevertheless, I would really like to stay here. I wouldn't want to move again with my family, because we're having a great time in Miami. Equally important is that I feel comfortable with everyone, from the owners to the coaching staff and especially the locker room, which is special. I'll talk with the club at the end of the season, but my hope is to stay."
