‘Applicants to receive drivers’ license in 21 days, not 60 days’, says agency
The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has reduced the waiting period for applicants of drivers’ license from 60 to 21 days.
While making this announcement, the FRSC Marshal, Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, also announced that drivers’ license tank farms have been expanded to 243 across Nigeria.
Represented by Omo Kagho, at the new drivers’ license procedure sensitization programme, he added that this showed the agency’s dedication towards restoring the integrity of the Nigeria drivers’ licence.
“It is interesting to note that through this scheme and the Corps’ backed ICT infrastructure, the FRSC has improved on its capacity to enforce traffic rules and regulations as our on-line offenders’ database has encouraged the introduction of the penalty point system and the flying tickets to further regulate the activities of drivers in Nigeria”.
Earlier this year, Mr Oyeyemi urged Nigerians not to go through third parties for their drivers' license.
He explained that these third parties charge higher than the fixed price, which is N6,350.
“Members of the public who give money and passport size photograph to anybody in order to collect driver’s license are doing disservice to themselves. Going through third party costs more money and produces fake license to unsuspecting applicants, which is an offence.
Cost of original driver’s license is N6,350 and the applicant must go for biometrics at any licensing office across the country to obtain the license. This is safer and costs less compared to the ones that pay third party for driver’s license and at the end of the day, they will be apprehended for carrying fake license.”
