Tagged “Speed kills, Slow Down,’’ the goal was to educate motorists on safe driving using celebrities.

Hygenius Umeje, the FRSC Sector Commander in Lagos, spoke on the aim of the campaign.

“We are reaching out to the motorists through the celebrities; this time, we want their fans to be aware of safety while driving. Our mission is to make sure that safety campaign gets to everybody and to ensure they drive safely anytime. Don’t drink before driving and if you must drive make sure you don’t drink, life has no duplicate.”

According to Mr Kehinde Nwandu, coordinator of the campaign, the celebrities joined the campaign because of the death of Dagrin.

“A music legend called Dagrin died through motor accident and so many, that is why they decided to join the campaign.’’

The celebrities included Yemi Sodimu, a popular Yoruba actor, Rotimi Martins, a popular artist known as `Alariwo of Africa’, and Kenny St Brown, a musician.

They all said that celebrities could influence motorists to change their attitude towards obeying traffic rules.

“I have been controlling traffic. Motorists need to be aware of traffic rules to avoid accidents because many of them are the bread winners of their families,”Martins said.

“What we are doing today is to ensure that our fans drive safely and ensure that they don’t drink while driving to stay alive,’’ St Brown said.
