Over 30 offices burn as fire razes institution

Vital offical documents and students results got burnt in the inferno reportedly caused by an electrical surge.

Over 30 offices at the central administrative block of Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Kebbi State were destroyed by fire including students results and vital official documents.

According to reports, the fire which was caused by an electrical surge in one of the staff offices, started at about 10:00 a.m on Tuesday, October 2, 2018.

While speaking to newsmen about the incident, an officer of the Polytechnic Fire Service Department, Nasir Guru confirmed the fire outbreak. He, however, said they could not put out the fire due to poor equipment.

The Rector of the Polytechnic, Arch. Sani Aliyu also confirmed the incident saying ''we don’t expect this kind of fire with no specific reason besides that it was some electrical surge''

''He said, It has just taken place and it would be practically impossible for us to ascertain the vital documents that were lost.

What we know is that Central Administrative offices, laboratory, students results, valuable documents and staff office of the College of Science and Technology department were burnt by fire.”

Meanwhile the state governor, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has reportedly visited the institution to sympathise with the management of the polytechnic.
