Iván Jaime has openly admitted his desire to return to his hometown club, Málaga, believing the team's promotion to LaLiga opens the door for such a move.
While on holiday on the Costa del Sol, the attacking midfielder, currently contracted to FC Porto, spoke to the YouTube channel Supabros and didn't hide his affection for the club that developed him and where he played before moving to Portugal with Famalicão. "Málaga could be a possibility. I don't know anything, nor am I aware of anything, but with their promotion to the First Division, a great possibility opens up, because Málaga is Málaga," he stated.
The 25-year-old Dragons' playmaker, who hasn't found success in Porto and isn't in Francesco Farioli's plans, also confessed that returning to the southern Spanish club is a career goal. "I would like to come back here before I retire, although I hope that's still many years away. It's a dream," he added.
"When I left for Portugal, for Famalicão, I was 19 and my first thought was to stay at Málaga. I was already playing with the first team, but the coach often told me he couldn't use me due to registration issues," he recalled, explaining his perspective at the time: "For me, it was as if they were calling me to register with the first team, because I would stay, but in the end, everything happened differently."
During the conversation, the player who represented Canadian side Montréal last season on loan from the blue and whites, also spoke about his journey through the Andalusian club's academy, where he spent eight years. "When I was in Málaga's youth ranks, I only thought about reaching the first team, not about being a professional player," he revealed.
One of the most significant moments of his career was his debut for Málaga's first team in the Copa del Rey, at just 17 years old. "I remember stepping onto the pitch and seeing La Rosaleda from below, and I didn't even know where I was. I was completely lost. I was disoriented," he described.
Finally, Iván Jaime shared his admiration for Isco, considering him his greatest footballing reference. "The only player I say is my idol is Isco. I try to play like him because it gives me pleasure. When Isco was at Málaga, it was a marvel," he concluded.
The Spaniard's future remains uncertain, and both FC Porto and the midfielder are looking to find a mutually beneficial solution in the coming weeks.
