Manager Thomas Tuchel has faced scrutiny from pundits and fans for his substitutions after the break in the 2-1 defeat. Argentina scored two late goals to secure their place in the final against Spain on Sunday at 10:00 PM Bulgarian time.

On Thursday, BBC Sport reported that some of England's key players were disappointed with the instructions on how to see out the match after Anthony Gordon had given them the lead. In the closing minutes, Tuchel switched to a five-man defence and made several defensive changes, just before Lionel Messi inspired Argentina's dramatic comeback.

"England has a great player who I've played golf with. That's Harry Kane, who is fantastic," Trump stated. "I think maybe they made a mistake when they made him a defensive player. But what do I know about soccer? They were leading, then they took their best player and put him on defence. You have to be a little more offensive, right? But I'm not going to judge. What do I know about coaching? Still, it was a bit unusual."

Later, when Trump's comments were brought up at a press conference, Tuchel was quick to dismiss his criticism.
