EuroLeague Press Release
The masterplan establishes a long-term growth strategy focused on boosting the overall value of the League and its member clubs, expanding the competition through two franchise expansion windows, and reinforcing financial sustainability across the board.
The blueprint aims to significantly drive up the League's commercial revenue and economic distributions to participating teams, opening up fresh opportunities for investment and expansion. It builds on the momentum generated over the past decade and provides a framework to further solidify EuroLeague's stature in European and global basketball.
Across the 10-year cycle, the League projects a total distribution of €3.4 billion to participating teams, comprising €2.2 billion from revenue payouts and €1.2 billion from franchise expansion fees.
Commercial Growth and Increased Club Distributions
Under the 10-year business plan, Euroleague Basketball is targeting €648 million in annual commercial revenue by Year 10. This ambitious goal builds on the League's proven track record, which saw commercial revenue grow fivefold over the previous 10-year period.
Economic distributions to clubs are projected to hit €2.2 billion over the decade-long timeframe, reaffirming the League's commitment to sharing the value generated by the competition directly with its participants.
Expansion Opportunities and New Investments
Expansion stands as another cornerstone of the 10-year strategy. Euroleague Basketball currently has 15 binding offers on the table worth a total of €1.2 billion, reflecting strong interest in joining the competition's future development.
The business plan envisions €1.2 billion in franchise fees generated across two potential expansion windows, scheduled for 2027 and 2031. These fees will come on top of standard commercial distributions, unlocking substantial new capital across the League.
Franchise Transformation and Long-Term Value Creation
Based on current estimated valuations of €1.8 billion for licensed clubs combined and €1.4 billion for the League itself, the roadmap forecasts significant long-term growth over the coming decade.
The shift to a franchise-based model is expected to provide an immediate 25% bump in valuation for both clubs and the League, starting from the 2026/27 season.
By the end of the 10-year horizon, the combined valuation of current licensed clubs is projected to reach €5.4 billion—a three-fold increase—while the League's overall value is expected to soar to €7.98 billion, representing a 5.7-fold surge compared to current estimates.
The franchise transformation is designed to provide a solid long-term framework for investment, stability, and commercial growth, allowing member clubs to fully capitalize on the competition's rising equity value.
Financial Sustainability at the Core of the Strategy
Long-term club sustainability remains the central pillar of the plan. Euroleague Basketball will continue prioritizing the financial footing of its members, fostering viable and self-sustaining business models across the continent.
While approximately 40% of licensed clubs are currently deemed financially sustainable, Euroleague Basketball projects that all licensed clubs will achieve full financial sustainability by the end of the first phase of this 10-year business plan.
"A growing number of our licensed clubs have achieved sustainable financial operations in recent years, with 40% currently in that position. All clubs view full sustainability as a top priority, and the 10-year plan places it front and centre," said Xavi Pujada, Chief Financial Officer of Euroleague Basketball. "The value of the EuroLeague and its clubs is rising rapidly, and that will only accelerate as we roll out this business plan and clubs continue their own progress. Clubs will retain ownership of valuable assets without needing to take on additional risk or capital expenditure."
Euroleague Basketball also plans to tighten its Financial Fair Play regulations, in line with resolutions adopted during the Lake Como summit by the 13 shareholder clubs, supporting teams in their push toward long-term solvency while sustaining strategic investments in growth areas such as technology and innovation.
Spearheading this transformation is Euroleague Basketball+, the organization’s initiative to establish a dedicated digital home for European basketball. Alongside this, venue development and arena modernization will remain a primary focus, backed by the newly formed VenueCO, designed to provide participating clubs and stakeholders with the financing and expertise needed to construct, upgrade, and maximize the potential of their arenas.
Alongside these initiatives, clubs have continued to expand their revenue-generating capacity. Average matchday revenues have doubled over the past three years, while commercial revenues have risen by 50% over the last three seasons.
The 10-year business plan brings these strategic priorities together under a comprehensive long-term roadmap engineered to accelerate commercial growth, maximize the value of the League and its clubs, and ensure the economic gains build a stronger, more sustainable European basketball ecosystem.
