Security measures were significantly heightened around the England national team's hotel on Saturday evening, ahead of their World Cup last-16 clash against host nation Mexico on Sunday.
Police established a security perimeter around the hotel, restricting access and preventing large groups of fans from gathering outside. Despite this, a small contingent of Mexican supporters assembled near the hotel during the evening. They were kept at a distance by law enforcement and later dispersed without incident.
This operation was initiated after Ecuador filed an official complaint earlier in the tournament. On that occasion, dozens of Mexican fans had gathered outside the Ecuadorian team's hotel overnight, using horns, loudspeakers, and motorcycles in an attempt to disrupt the players' rest.
England is set to face Mexico at the iconic Azteca Stadium on Sunday, with a coveted spot in the World Cup quarter-finals at stake.
