The English Football Association (FA) is considering an appeal against the red card shown to Jarell Quansah during England's 3-2 victory over Mexico in the World Cup Round of 16, reports the Press Association. Thomas Tuchel's side played most of the second half with 10 men at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City after the Bayer Leverkusen defender was sent off in the 54th minute.
Quansah is set to be suspended for Saturday's quarter-final against Norway in Miami, and Tuchel has not hidden his frustration with the standard of officiating at the tournament. The England manager has already called for consistency following FIFA's "strange" decision to overturn a red card for American forward Folarin Balogun, a move that sparked widespread debate in the football world.
Quansah's absence creates a selection headache for Tuchel, with both Reece James and Djed Spence also doubtful. This forces the German manager to once again look for an alternative on the right side of the Three Lions' defence.
