The new West Ham signing was playing for Karabukspor when he was involved in a match fixing scandal in 2011.

The 28-year-old was accused of faking an injury to miss a game for Karabukspor against Fenerbahce in order to secure a £9million move to the club.

The Imo State born striker was arrested and detained for four days but the case was dismissed in 2013 by a Turkish court due to a lack of evidence.

Speaking on his time in prison, Emenike said he was treated like a criminal in a foreign country.

"My time in prison was a crazy nightmare that I couldn’t wake up from," the former  Super Eagles striker said in an interview with UK Sun.

"I’ve never committed a crime in my life, but I was treated like a criminal, living on bread and water."

While playing for Fenerbahce, Emenike encountered more trouble as their team bus was attacked by gunmen while returning from a way game last April.

Describing the incident, Emenike said:"I was on the phone to my brother when I heard a loud bang.

"The bus suddenly swerved and there was panic.

"I instinctively took cover and our security officer told us the driver had been shot. Seeing him covered in blood was scary."
