Nigerian defender Efe Ambrose has been blamed for Celtic’s 2-2 draw Fenerbahce in a UEFA Europa League clash on Thursday, October 1.
Celtic surrendered a 2-0 lead to settle for a draw and the blames were laid on the defender whose double blunder gave Fenerbahce their goals.
But a woeful back-header by Ambrose allowed substitute Fernandao to pull a crucial goal back just before the break.
Fernandao got the equaliser after outjumping Ambrose to head in the goal.
Celtic coach Ronny Deila blastedAmbrose for his 'stupid mistake' which led to Fenerbahce’s equalisers.
“I think we played well in the first half, although we started a little bit nervous, but after 10 and 15 minutes we were more comfortable on the ball,” Deila said.
“We started to play and put in some crosses and created two very nice goals.
“I think we had good control over them but, of course, we made a stupid mistake which happens in football, but you get punished when you are in Europe.
“We started the second half poorly and then they get 2-2 from a set play.
“That is something we need to sort out, to get better, for sure.”
Ambrose, who was sent off in their last weekend league clash with Heart was branded useless by Celtic celebrity fan and former Scotland Rugby player Roy Lamont.
“Remember that time Efe Ambrose was in the team of the week twice? #plum #useless #pasthissellbydate,” he wrote on Twitter.
