The legendary Brazilian didn't get the fairytale send-off he might have dreamed of, but he fought valiantly until the very end. His retirement announcement came after a loss to Esteban Ribovics in the opening bout of the UFC 330 main card. The fight concluded with a TKO at 1:32 of the second round.

Following the fight, Ribovics paid tribute to Barboza, acknowledging him as one of his sporting heroes.

“He was my idol when I started training,” Ribovics stated about Barboza. “He had an incredible, long career. It’s an honor for me to fight him. It’s bittersweet… when you compete in this sport, you know that one day this will happen.”

“I want to fight anyone close to the top 15. I know my last fight wasn't my best, but I want another chance,” the victor added.

“I just want to say thank you,” Barboza shared. “I gave my best every single day. In every single fight, I truly gave my all. I hope you guys enjoyed it. Thank you.”

While it certainly wasn't the ending he envisioned, Barboza will be remembered as one of the most exciting fighters to ever step into the octagon. His brutal striking style has dismantled countless opponents over the years. He retires as a fan favorite with a collection of memorable moments that can rival almost any other fighter in UFC history.
