Nigeria’s U-23 team will on Wednesday, August 10 take on Colombia in their final Group B game of the football event of
The Dream Team VI have overcame several odds to be leading the group with maximum six points which have guaranteed them a place in the quarter-finals.
With the quarter-finals already guaranteed, coach Samson Siasia is set to ring the changes ahead of the clash with Colombia in Sao Paulo.
“I had to take this decision because we have qualified for the quarter finals as group leaders, and secondly I need to rest some of the starters because in the next phase there is a possibility of going into extra time,” Siasia told thenff.com.
“For now the boys have done well and I need to make the other players justify why I selected them for this tournament. This is not a tea party so everyone must stand up to be counted, and the only way they can be counted is if they play well against Colombia. Resting some starters does not mean we are underrating the opposition.”
According to several reports, four goal hero in their first game, Oghenekaro Etebo, Sadiq Umar who already have two goals in the Olympics, William Troost-Ekong and captain John Mikel Obi are the players that will be rested against Colombia.
Colombia, meanwhile, need a win to qualify for the quarter-finals regardless of what happens in the other game between Japan and Sweden.
The have two points from their 2-2 draws against Sweden and Japan.
Teofilo Gutierrez who already has two goals in the Games will be the man to watch in the Colombian side.
