Donald Trump's World Cup Final Appearance Sparks Debate: 'He's Very Angry at Spain'

Donald Trump's presence at the World Cup final has stirred up quite a reaction. The American president presented the trophy to world champions Spain afterward, but his on-field demeanor caused considerable surprise. In the Sportnieuws.nl World Cup football podcast, analysts Robert Maaskant and Ali Boussaboun sharply criticized Trump's performance.

"We knew beforehand that the president of the organizing country would present the trophy, and I don't find that particularly strange," Maaskant said. "And we all expected him to stand centrally in the photo, but he didn't, thanks to a little nudge from Rodri. Rodri did that very well, and then Infantino came running through the frame to show him the way," he chuckled.

'Trump is as senile as they come'

Fellow pundit Ali Boussaboun viewed Trump's appearance during Spain's trophy ceremony with less enthusiasm. "That man, in my opinion, is as senile as they come," reacted the former Feyenoord and Moroccan national team player. "He was just looking around a bit, pretending to find it all very beautiful, but everyone knows he doesn't give a damn."

According to Boussaboun, Trump is far from pleased with Spain's World Cup title. "He's actually very angry at the Spanish because they were one of the few countries that had the guts to tell the United States: 'This far and no further.' Trump doesn't like that, because everyone is supposed to be humble and subservient, of course. But the Spanish government has now said: 'Well, no, we're not going to do that.' So he's not at all happy that Spain won that prize."

Iran's Participation Role

Maaskant then delved into the broader role of the American president during the World Cup. "I understood that Iran, for security reasons, couldn't stay in the United States for too long due to potential attacks on such a team... You naturally have to guarantee the safety of those players, and that's easier outside the United States," Maaskant believes.

Boussaboun still can't wrap his head around it. "I believe a hundred thousand percent that wasn't the reason. It was pure bullying. I was glad they participated despite all the tensions, but you are the host of the World Cup. All those countries worked hard to qualify, so you should act as a proper host. If you don't do that for all countries, then you're not worth your salt, and you're disadvantaging those people."
