Novak Djokovic has dropped to 12th in the ATP singles world rankings, marking the Serb's first exit from the tennis hierarchy's top 10 since July 16, 2018. The seven-place fall follows an early elimination in the first round of the US Open.

This event also signifies a milestone in men's tennis, as it's the first time since October 13, 2002, that none of the sport's so-called 'Big Three' – Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic (Federer retired in 2022 and Nadal in 2024) – are featured in the ATP top ten.

In the women's circuit, the big news is Elena Rybakina's ascent to the top of the rankings. The Kazakh dethroned Aryna Sabalenka, who had held the top spot for 99 weeks, after defeating the Belarusian in the US Open final last Saturday with a score of 6-4, 5-7, 6-2. Sabalenka now drops to second place, while American Jessica Pegula remains in third.

Alexander Zverev's victory at the US Open on Sunday allowed him to solidify his second-place ranking and close in on leader Jannik Sinner, who missed the New York tournament due to injury. The German claimed the final Grand Slam of the season by defeating American Ben Shelton in the final with set scores of 6-2, 7-6 (7-2), 5-7, 6-2.

Despite his loss in the final, Ben Shelton achieved his best-ever ATP ranking, climbing to fourth place, just behind Spain's Carlos Alcaraz, who is third. Another notable rise was that of American Frances Tiafoe, who, after reaching the semifinals, entered the top 10, securing the eighth position.

Among Portuguese tennis players, Nuno Borges remains the national number one, despite dropping seven places to 48th. Conversely, Jaime Faria achieved his personal best ranking, moving up two spots to 70th, while Henrique Rocha is nearing the top 100, ascending to 118th position.
