Ginger ale or ginger beer is quite an unusual ingredient for a cocktail, but it so happens that this soft drink is the main ingredient for the ‘Gin Buck’.

According to our research, we found out that whenever this ginger carbonated drink is combined with citrus in a drink, it is known as a buck. Hence the combo of ginger ale and gin is called a gin buck.

This particular mix was popular in the 1920s and reigned from then into the 30s and 40s. Perhaps this was because of the citrus spicy taste of the drink.  This classic cocktail so happens to be one of the simplest summer themed drinks to make.

What you need:

  • Gin
  • Ginger ale or ginger beer
  • Juice of half a lemon or lime

Directions:

  • Fill up a glass with ice.
  • Pour in some a shot or two of gin.
  • Add the lemon juice.
  • Then fill glass with ginger ale or ginger beer, and stir.
  • Garnish cocktail with either a lemon wedge or a lime wedge.
