The two-time world champions secured a 3-0 win, booking their place in the World Cup round of 16. France's all-time leading goalscorer distinguished himself with two goals in the match.

In the 85th minute, the coaching staff decided to substitute Mbappé. As Kylian left the pitch, Deschamps bowed to him twice as a sign of appreciation.

Mbappé himself embraced the manager after his first goal, later explaining it was a gesture on behalf of the entire team to show sympathy for Deschamps following the loss of his mother.
