Spain's national team coach, Luis de la Fuente, has drawn a bold comparison between the current "La Furia Roja" squad and the team that triumphed at the 2010 World Cup. He expressed confidence in his players' abilities ahead of their Round of 16 clash against Portugal at the 2026 World Cup, scheduled for July 6th.
"With all due respect, I believe we possess the best midfielders in the world. We have two top-tier players for every position. I can list them: Rodri, Zubimendi, Fabian Ruiz, Pedri, Olmo, Merino, Baena, Gavi, Fermin Lopez, who isn't here... I'm probably forgetting someone, and they'll be upset! The midfield from 2010 was also exceptional. Football evolves, but I would say we are almost at the same level," De la Fuente stated, as quoted by "Mundo Deportivo."
In 2010, Spain secured their first-ever World Cup title, defeating the Netherlands 1-0 in the final match.
