Spanish national team defender Marc Cucurella will have to honor his promise and get a tattoo of head coach Luis de la Fuente's face after his team defeated Argentina to become world champions. Even before the start of the 2026 World Cup, the left-back stated he would get such a tattoo if Spain lifted the trophy in New Jersey.

"I'm too old for tattoos, but my players keep their word, and I know they will do it. He made a mistake, and now he will keep his promise. I'm not that ugly," the 'La Furia Roja' coach said at his post-final press conference. When asked where on his body he would like Cucurella to tattoo his face, De la Fuente replied: "Maybe somewhere it won't be seen. When you say something, you have to keep your word."

Cucurella himself was also asked about his promise, to which he laconically replied that he would decide where the tattoo would be and that he was obliged to get it.

Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 after extra time to lift the World Cup trophy for the second time in history, with Real Madrid's new signing playing 120 minutes in the final.
