Immediately after the final whistle, Spain's head coach Luis de la Fuente officially became the oldest manager ever to lift the World Cup trophy. At precisely 65 years and 29 days old, the Spanish tactician also became the first manager over the age of 60 to lead his team to the global summit.

With this achievement, De la Fuente surpassed the previous record held by his compatriot Vicente del Bosque. The legendary Del Bosque had held the top spot for 16 years, having guided the very same Spanish team to their first world title in South Africa in 2010 at the age of 59.
