David Moyes Surprised by Everton Owners' Decision to Consider Club Sale

Everton manager David Moyes admitted on Friday that he was surprised by the decision of the club's owners, The Friedkin Group, to consider selling a majority stake in the Premier League side, Reuters reported.  The American group announced earlier in the day that they are open to a sale in order to attract fresh investment, less than two years after purchasing Everton from former owner Farhad Moshiri in December 2024.

"I really felt the jigsaw was put together with the new owners," Moyes said ahead of his side's Premier League match against Hull City on Sunday. "My ambition is to get Everton back to the level the team was at in the past and consistently challenge for European places. It was a difficult summer for us. I only found out this morning. Maybe I'm a bit surprised, though I shouldn't be surprised," the Scotsman added.

Everton sit seventh in the Premier League standings after five games.  The Friedkin Group took charge of a club in financial distress and prolonged uncertainty, also overseeing the team's move to the new Hill Dickinson Stadium.  "When we acquired the club, it was battling financial uncertainty alongside on-and-off-pitch challenges," the owners said in a statement. "With stability now established, it is time to look at Everton's next chapter," the American firm added.  The group's decision comes on the heels of a transfer window that, according to British media, drew criticism from supporters. Everton generated solid revenue through player departures but brought in few reinforcements before the deadline passed.
