Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has ruled out a January move for Manchester United's David de Gea after a move for him collapsed on transfer deadline day.

A proposed transfer for the Spain international to the Santiago Bernabeu fell through late in the Spanish transfer window, leading the clubs to be drawn into a public disagreement over who was in the wrong

There have been reports that Real Madrid will try to get De Gea again in the January transfer window but President Florentino Perez has refuted those reports.

"No definitely not," Perez told Spanish radio Cadena Cope when he was asked if he will go back for the goalkeeper.

"We are not contemplating that he comes next year," he added.

"He is there and we have three very good goalkeepers. We have not told him not to sign (a new deal). He has to do what is best for his career.

"It’s very difficult that he does nothing for a year. When people say: “wait for a year and then he comes free” that has never happened with any big player."

Perez also rejected claims that the club must pay a penalty clause to the player for not signing him this summer.

"It’s not true," Perez said.

"Every day something new comes out and we don’t have to deny everything but these things come out and people believe them to be true."
