Dani Alves' wife Joana Sanz files for divorce amid sexual assault case

Dani Alves' wife, Joana Sanz, is filing for a divorce after her husband was arrested following an accusation of sexual assault.

The alleged assault took place in the Sutton nightclub in Barcelona on December 30 and the Brazilian footballer was arrested on January 20.

Alves is currently in pre-trial detention without bail, having played for Mexican side Pumas at the time, although the club have since terminated his contract.

However, the former Barcelona defender has reportedly received a request for divorce from his current wife Joana Sanz through his lawyer, as reported by Marca via the Ana Rosa Programme.

According to reports, the reason for the proposed divorce is not due to whether or not Alves is guilty, but because he has acknowledged the infidelity.

"His lawyers have told him because last week she asked for a 'vis a vis' and he said he didn't want to", journalist Leticia Requejo was quoted to have said via Marca.

She also added: "They also tell me that Joana regrets these first statements defending her boyfriend, decisions that she makes because of Dani Alves' lawyer".

It was also reported that Alves had rejected the possibility of a meeting with his wife or seeing his immediate family, having banned them from visiting him in prison, despite reports suggesting that a maximum of six people will be allowed access. 

Recently, Sanz deleted all the photos she has with her current husband Alves from her Instagram page, including those of their wedding day.

There is no longer a trace of the happy moments her and Alves lived in their travels, their dinners, their laughter, their kisses, with all those posts seemingly history on her Instagram page.

From all indications, Joana is determined to finally end her union with the former Juventus and PSG star having married the 39-year-old Brazilian in 2017.

This situation comes at a very difficult time for Sanz who, just over a week ago, lost her mother after a battle with cancer.

Over the last couple of days with her husband in the headlines, she has also received multiple messages of insults and threats via social media.
