The Atlanta Falcons have reached an agreement with Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn on a five-year deal to be the team's new head coach.
The Falcons confirmed the news on Twitter on Monday.
Quinn will fly to Atlanta on Monday and will be introduced as the head coach at a news conference on Tuesday.
"It's official! Dan Quinn has been named the 16th head coach in Falcons history," the Falcons tweeted.
Atlanta were required to wait until after the Seahawks played in the Super Bowl to make the deal official.
"I am grateful for this opportunity, and I am excited to be the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons," Quinn said Monday.
"This felt like the right fit from the beginning, and I want to thank [Falcons owner] Mr [Arthur] Blank for his resolve as this was an extended and complicated process.
"My goal is to build upon the foundation that has been laid here and to play a physical brand of football as we build a championship-calibre team."
Quinn, 44, began his NFL coaching career with the 49ers as their defensive quality control coach in 2001.
He coached the defensive lines for the 49ers from 2003 to 2004, the Miami Dolphins from 2005 to 2006, and the New York Jets from 2007 to 2008.
Quinn joined the Seahawks in 2009, served as the defensive coordinator for the Florida Gators from 2011 to 2012, then returned to the Seahawks in 2013 to replace Gus Bradley, who became the Jacksonville Jaguars' head coach.
