First ever day-night Test underway in Adelaide

After much controversy surrounding the pink ball and question marks over safety under lights, the highly anticipated Test started at the Adelaide Oval on Friday.

Brendon McCullum won the toss and elected to bat as New Zealand, trailing 1-0 in the three-Test series, look to share the spoils.

Mitchell Santner makes his Test debut, replacing Matt Henry, and Trent Boult has been passed fit to play, while paceman Peter Siddle was named in Australia's team ahead of James Pattinson.

The pitch in Adelaide looked flat and dry despite talk in the lead-up that more grass would be left on the wicket to help maintenance of the pink ball.

Friday also marks the one-year anniversary of the death of former Australia batsman Phillip Hughes.

Day-night Test cricket is tipped to save the five-day format and all eyes will be on the South Australian capital.
