Conor McGregor maintains a positive outlook on his recovery following surgery. McGregor underwent an operation to repair a torn meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee. He sustained the injury during his technical knockout loss to Max Holloway at UFC 329. McGregor injured his knee on his very first kick attempt and subsequently struggled to stay on his feet. The bout was stopped just 69 seconds in.

McGregor, who holds a 22-7 MMA record and a 10-5 UFC record, posted a video on social media platform X. In it, he paid tribute to several athletes who have successfully returned from ACL tears. Among them is Dominick Cruz, who reclaimed his UFC bantamweight title after a 16-month absence.

“What’s up, folks? Mac is back,” McGregor stated. “My knee is repaired, the surgery was a success, and I’m already on the road to recovery. That should tell you everything you need to know about my mindset – I immediately underwent surgery, the knee is fixed, and I’m already moving forward. Let’s go. I want to give a shout-out to Dominick Cruz, who came back from multiple ACL tears to reclaim his bantamweight title. Georges St-Pierre also suffered a couple of those injuries. I don’t know if he came back after the second tear, but he’s doing backflips, and his movements are still remarkable.”

There are other famous examples from different sports. In the National Football League, Tom Brady did it. Adrian Peterson also did it. They are my motivation, especially the fighters. I am unstoppable – my mindset is unstoppable and unwavering.”

Cruz commented extensively on McGregor’s injury, expressing optimism that “The Notorious” will make a full recovery. McGregor broke his left leg in July 2021, injured his pinky toe in 2024, and now tore ligaments in his right knee upon his return after a five-year absence.
