The Executive Committee of the Colombian Football Federation has officially announced that Argentine national team coach Néstor Lorenzo will continue to lead the squad. This decision solidifies the leadership's support for the project, which began in mid-2022, and ensures stability at the helm of "Los Cafeteros" for the upcoming cycle.

The confirmation followed a crucial meeting in Bogotá between the coach and Colombian football officials. During this meeting, the results achieved after their recent participation in the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico were evaluated.

Despite the bitter taste of their Round of 16 elimination by Switzerland on penalties, the Federation highly values the results and the playing style developed by the Buenos Aires-born coach during his four years in charge.

His overall success rate stands at 69%. Among his most significant achievements leading the national team are a record-breaking 28-match unbeaten streak, a silver medal at the 2024 Copa América, and direct qualification for this year's World Cup in North America.

“The Executive Committee of the Colombian Football Federation announces the renewal of head coach Néstor Lorenzo’s contract. With this agreement, the federation reaffirms its support for the technical process that the coach leads at the head of our national team,” stated the Federation’s official announcement.

While the organization did not explicitly specify the duration of the new contract, the commitment to continuity directs the coaching staff's efforts towards upcoming international calendar challenges. These include the new cycle of South American qualifiers for the 2030 World Cup and the 2028 Copa América.

This new phase will also bring a restructuring within Lorenzo's coaching staff. Luis Amaranto Perea, who served as his primary assistant since 2022, recently departed to take on the challenge of independently managing the Colombian club team Independiente Medellín. Néstor Lorenzo is expected to announce his assistant's successor soon, with the team's first post-World Cup appearance scheduled for September in a series of friendly matches.
