Club Once Linked With Slovan Bratislava Unveils Ultra-Modern Training Facility

Premier League outfit Ipswich Town FC, who play at Portman Road, have revealed the first look inside their newly renovated Playford Road training complex. The multi-million-pound project is designed to help the club attract marquee signings and serve as a top-tier incubator for homegrown talent.

Sci-Fi-Level Facilities

The new £30 million (approx. €35 million) training ground boasts cutting-edge technology and spaces rarely seen at most clubs across the Premier League and beyond. Players now have access to amenities including:

  • A security system powered by retinal scans.

  • Boot-drying technology of the kind commonly used in Austrian ski resorts.

  • A bone density scanner imported directly from the US, allowing comprehensive player medical assessments to be conducted entirely on-site.

  • A state-of-the-art recovery suite featuring a hydrotherapy pool, hyperbaric chambers, and a plunge pool.

  • A fully equipped gym and a specialised altitude training chamber.

  • A dedicated family lounge where players' families can relax during signings and other events.

Bizarre Hydration-Tracking Feature

While club chairman Mark Ashton hailed the new complex as unmatched in the East of England, the facility also includes a high-tech novelty that many might find unusual.

Digital screens are mounted directly above the urinals, requiring players to log in before using them. The system then performs instant analysis on samples, immediately alerting coaches to a player's hydration levels.

The ownership behind Ipswich Town is equally noteworthy for Slovak football followers. The club is owned by Anglo-American consortium Gamechanger 20 Ltd, backed by a major US investment fund. That same group was heavily linked in recent times with an investment into dominant Slovak champions ŠK Slovan Bratislava, although no deal to bring Ipswich's owners to Tehelné pole ever materialised.

Beyond Ipswich Town FC, Gamechanger 20 Ltd and its sister companies hold stakes in two lower-tier American clubs, Danish fourth-tier outfit FC Helsingør, and, most recently in early July 2026, entered Italian football by investing in Frosinone Calcio.
