Chris Froome's miserable week has continued with confirmation he suffered fractures to his left wrist and right hand in the Tour de France.

The Team Sky rider's defence of his Tour title was cut short after he suffered three crashes in two days and was forced to withdraw from the race.

Froome has now revealed that scan results showed he suffered two fractures.
He tweeted: "MRIs done, confirmed fractures to the left wrist & right hand. Time for some R&R..."
Froome was aiming to become the first rider since Miguel Indurain in the 1990s to win back-to-back yellow jerseys.

Having negotiated the opening three stages, the 29-year-old suffered his first accident on Tuesday as a collision of wheels in the peloton saw him land heavily on his left side.
