Song Yadong dominated Umar Nurmagomedov at UFC Shanghai and is now eyeing a title shot.

The Chinese star secured the biggest win of his career in Saturday's main event. Early in the second round, Song knocked out Nurmagomedov with a right uppercut, leaving the former title contender motionless on the octagon canvas.

In his post-fight interview, Song was crystal clear:

“Give me a title fight!”

After his performance against Nurmagomedov, his claim is hard to dispute. Song has long been a contender in the division but had yet to defeat a top-ranked opponent in their prime. He entered Saturday's bout as a significant underdog and was behind on the judges' scorecards after an action-packed first round.

Nurmagomedov skillfully blended his striking and wrestling, but Song weathered the early storm without significant damage and defended well against his grappling attempts.

Song's preparation and fearlessness paid off in the second round. He thwarted an early takedown attempt from Nurmagomedov, then chose the perfect moment for an uppercut as his opponent ducked for another leg attack.

The punch landed flush on the side of Nurmagomedov's jaw, snapping his head back and instantly rendering him unconscious.

The official time of the stoppage was 1:48 into the second round.

This marks Song's second consecutive victory (24 wins, 9 losses, 1 draw, and 1 no-contest). Nurmagomedov's (20-2) two-fight winning streak came to an end, and his hopes of another title opportunity now seem more distant.

The UFC bantamweight title will be on the line at UFC 333 on October 24th, when champion Petr Yan faces Merab Dvalishvili in their third encounter. Following his impressive victory, Song is now in an excellent position to be named as an alternate for the championship bout or to await its winner.
