Chilling New Details Emerge in Diogo Jota's Tragic Death: He Never Read His Wife's Last Message

A new biography titled "Nunca Mais e Muito Tempo" (Never Again is a Long Time) has recently been released. The book, published nine months after the deaths of former Liverpool attacking midfielder Diogo Jota (†28) and his brother André Silva (†25), offers chilling and deeply personal recollections from their closest family. Both sons were lost in a tragic car accident in Spain in July 2025.

Isabel, the mother, vividly recounts the most difficult moments of her life, when her world collapsed on that fateful evening. “Joaquim approached me, put his hands on my shoulders, and said: ‘It was both of them’.”

Cruel Timing and a Wife's Last Message

The tragic timing of the entire ordeal adds another layer of heartbreak. Just 11 days before his death, Diogo Jota had married his childhood sweetheart, Rute Cardoso, in a beautiful ceremony in Porto. It was the devastated widow who sent him a final message, one the elite forward would never get to read.

“Honey, call me when you're done, because I want to show you something here,” Rute wrote to him.

At that moment, their fresh wedding video had just arrived, and she was eager to share it. When she later couldn't reach Diogo Jota, she desperately called the hotel where the brothers were supposed to spend the night on their way to England. Shortly after, she received the worst possible news.

A Fatal Drive Instead of a Flight

At the time, the brothers were returning to the British Isles in a rented Lamborghini sports car. Diogo Jota couldn't fly because a recent lung operation prevented him from air travel for safety reasons.

Their journey turned fatal in the early morning hours on a Spanish highway. Local police, immediately after the crash, were already working with the theory that excessive speed was the primary cause of the deadly accident.

To This Day, I Don't Know How I Survived

The father's memories of the moment he learned of his sons' loss are heartbreaking. “I was just about to go to bed after watching TV for a while in the living room when Rute called me and said in a desperate voice: ‘Please, come here’,” Joaquim recalls, adding with sorrow in the book: “To this day, I don't know how I survived.”
